Too HOT for Chocolate?! 🥵 Grand Canyon Road Trip Pit Stop!

📅 Published on: July 07, 2026

No matter where our road trips take us, we have a sacred family tradition that we never break: hunting down the absolute best local confectionary stores along our route. After cooling off inside the incredible Grand Canyon IMAX Theater for a phenomenal show, we decided to spend some time just strolling around the quaint town of Tusayan. The blazing summer heat quickly caught up to us, practically forcing us off the pavement and straight into the local chocolate factory for a much-needed cooling-off period!

Standing in front of the glass displays, the fun really began as we debated trying unique creations like "tiger butter" (a mix of white chocolate and peanut butter) versus hunting for our usual go-tos. Tracking down these sweet shops has become a bit of a sport for us during our travels. Over the years, we’ve developed a mental leaderboard, constantly comparing every new stop to the legendary, massive candy emporiums we’ve explored in our past travel guides, or the tiny, hidden-gem mom-and-pop shops that make the best high-quality treats we've ever tasted.

The Confectionary Leaderboard: The Hits and the Misses

Part of the fun of this tradition is seeing where a new shop lands in our rankings. We’ve been in massive, sprawling candy factories that feel like a playground, and we've discovered tiny shops with the ultimate rich, melt-in-your-mouth fudge. But honestly, not every stop is a home run. There are times we walk into a beautiful store only to realize they just don't have what we like at all—like looking everywhere for a classic malt ball, only to find the shelves loaded with things we aren't crazy about (like marshmallows!). That’s just the luck of the draw when you're exploring off the beaten path.

""Every local sweet shop tells a story—some become instant legends on our leaderboard, while others just remind us how specific our cravings really are!""

From the IMAX to the Ice Cream Counter

The Tusayan stop gave us plenty to talk about as we checked out their loose candy bins, rich fudge, and refreshing ice cream counter. Buying delicate chocolates in the middle of a scorching summer road trip means you have to eat them fast before they turn into a puddle, so we made sure to enjoy our treats thoroughly before heading back to our home base at the Trailer Village RV Park at the South Rim. Having a comfortable spot to park right inside the park makes these quick town detours incredibly easy. Whether a shop ends up being crowned the "biggest," the "best," or just a funny story about a miss, these laughing moments are exactly what make family travel memories stick. 👉 Want to follow along on our journey?
